How to dial Nigeria numbers

In the DanaTel dialer, type 234 (the + is already there), then the number without its first 0. Or paste a number that starts with +234 or 00234. The dialer shows 🇳🇬 Nigeria and the price as soon as it recognises the code.

Mobiles

+234 XXX XXX XXXX

Nigerian mobile numbers have 11 digits when written locally and start with 07, 08 or 09, for example 0803 XXX XXXX. Drop the first 0 and add +234: it becomes +234 803 XXX XXXX.

Landlines

Most numbers in Nigeria are mobiles. Landlines start with an area code: drop its 0 and add +234, so Lagos 01 becomes +234 1, Abuja 09 becomes +234 9 and Ibadan 02 becomes +234 2.

Nigeria is on the same time as the UK for most of the summer and one hour ahead in winter, so evening calls from the UK arrive at a sociable time all year.

What time is it in Nigeria?

It's 14:36 in Nigeria right now, the same time as the UK. Nigeria doesn't change its clocks, so it's 1 hour ahead in the UK winter and the same time while UK clocks are forward (late March to late October).

Calling Nigeria: questions

Can I call MTN, Glo, Airtel and 9mobile numbers?

Yes. DanaTel calls Nigerian mobile numbers on any network at the same per-minute rate.

Do I keep the 0 at the start of a Nigerian number?

No. After +234, leave out the first 0. A mobile number should have 10 digits after +234.

What's the time difference with Nigeria?

Nigeria is 1 hour ahead of the UK in winter and on the same time in the UK summer.

Do I need to install an app?

No. DanaTel works in the web browser you already have, on your phone or computer. Sign in, type the number and press Call. On a phone you can add DanaTel to your home screen so it opens like an app, but you don't have to.

How much does it cost?

Each country has a price per minute, shown on our rates page and in the dialer before you call. Some countries also have a small fee per connected call, shown next to the rate. There's no sign-up fee, subscription or monthly charge: you buy credit and it's used as you call.

How is billing calculated?

Calls are billed in 6-second steps: the call length is rounded up to the next 6 seconds, not the next minute, then multiplied by the country's per-minute rate, plus its connection fee if it has one. For example, a call of 2 minutes 3 seconds is billed as 2.1 minutes. The dialer shows the cost so far while you talk.

Are unanswered calls charged?

No. If nobody answers, the line is busy or the call can't connect, you pay nothing, connection fee included.
