How to contact DVLA from abroad
DVLA doesn't list a number for callers abroad. Here's when its lines are open, how to try them from another country, and what you can sort out online instead.
DVLA's phone lines
DVLA has separate helplines for driving licences and for vehicles. Both are UK 0300 numbers, listed on the "Contact DVLA" page on GOV.UK, and both are open Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm and Saturday 8am to 2pm, UK time. DVLA doesn't publish a separate number for callers outside the UK, so we haven't listed one here.
To try an 0300 number from abroad, put +44 in front of it and drop its first 0: 0300 becomes +44 300. With DanaTel, 03 numbers cost the same as other calls to the UK, £0.05/min + £0.10 per connected call, and a call that isn't answered costs nothing.
Things you can do online instead
- Tax a vehicle or make a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification).
- View your driving licence information.
- Apply for, renew or replace a licence, if you're eligible to.
GOV.UK also lists a WhatsApp chat for some DVLA questions. It's for messages only: you can't call DVLA through WhatsApp.
Before you call
- Wait for the usual processing time before chasing an application: 2 weeks if you applied online, 3 weeks by post.
- Have your driving licence number or your vehicle's registration number to hand.
- Check the UK time first: the lines close at 7pm on weekdays and 2pm on Saturdays, and they're closed on Sundays.
For organisations that do publish numbers for callers abroad, see calling UK and US numbers from abroad.
